Disadvantages of Poured Concrete

Aesthetic Degradation:
Over time, the surface finish of concrete erodes, exposing the dull aggregate substrate. It can look “tired”,  muted and rather pedestrian within a few years.

Uneven SIgns of Repair:
Cracks and spalls can arise at any time. After repair patching is undertaken,  poured walkways transform into collections of disjointed sections– jarring public eyesores that regrettably have become disheartening examples of urban neglect, decay, and neighborhood abandonment.

Staining:
Poured-in-place concrete paving has an exceptionally high propensity to accept staining due to its inherently porous structure. Unsealed concrete is essentially a dense, rigid sponge comprised of a complex network of microscopic capillary pores created as excess mix water evaporates during the curing process. Because of this structural profile, it will aggressively absorb and manifest petroleum stains, organic contaminants and efflorescence and lime runoff — unless it is properly and consistently sealed.

Advantages of Fiamma Stone

Absolute Visual Conformity:
Unlike traditional concrete section sidewalks that fail visually over long runs, Fiamma Stone pavers provide total visual conformity — yes, “up, down and around the block” — attractive paving that also sustains its original beauty for over 70 years! Because our selections are chosen for mineral consistency and precision saw-cut to exact geometric tolerances, they establish clean, continuous visual rhythms that unify streetscape.

Color and Value Retention:
Unlike concrete, which relies on added pigments that can fade under UV exposure, granite’s color is mineral-based and permanent. It adds significant “curb appeal” and value to a property that synthetic materials cannot match.

Diverse Finishes & High Demand Textures:
Although we prioritize Fiamma Stone flamed pavers, many other surface finishes and textures are available — as are sizes and thicknesses. Please refer to our Specifications pages for details. Its visual warmth and unique feel add to the appeal of urban paving, generating a clear sense of permanence and quality. While granite paving sustains its original appearance for 70+ years, the look of poured paving only worsens.

Dual Fabrication Formats:
We offer Modern, “Saw-Cut” formats that embrace crisp, uniform sizing and clean edging and “Historical” finish formats that mimic the look and feel of old-world hand-hewn granite setts. Please refer to our Specification pages for details.
